17. Stay alert

There seems to be a proliferation of advisory articles floating around this year. Perhaps this has prompted some legislators to try to preempt any success we may achieve with our lawsuit.

H. 709 is a bill that is in queue to be introduced to the house government operations committee. It was drafted to reduce revotes on budget and city issues by raising the number of signatures needed on a petition from 5% of the registered voters to 20%.

What is not being told is the bill includes advisory articles.

We maintain that raising the bar on any petition is an indefensible assault on democracy. Citizens wishing to protect their rights must stay alert and defend them from usurpation by elected officials who are hungry for power.
